Serving high quality, freshly made sushi at affordable prices, in Fitzrovia.

Japanese cuisine is not new to London by any means, as Japanese-run restaurants catering largely to the business community, began to grow in popularity in the 80’s. By the 90’s, sushi become mainstream when YO!Sushi introduced conveyor-belt style service, familiarising us with Japanese flavours and bite sized dishes. Since then many sandwich shops started selling small trays of sushi to keep up with a growing demand for a healthier, tasty alternative to a bulky sandwich. However for the more discerning palate, it has become increasingly difficult to find good quality sushi at affordable prices.
Sushi Fabrique opened earlier this year to provide high quality fresh sushi and other Japanese dishes at reasonable prices. Located in the heart of Fitzrovia where the old YO! Sushi! restaurant used to be, on the corner of Tottenham Court Road and Maple Street, it is already popular with professionals and students in the area.
There is a small takeaway section as you enter, with a large dine-in area to the side, an open plan kitchen and some seating outside. Furnishing is minimalist in style with wooden panelling and comfortable booths of cream coloured leather seats and white tables. The atmosphere is relaxed, while floor to ceiling windows brighten the restaurant and give a feeling of spaciousness.
We were given a friendly welcome and ushered to our table. The menu offers a large variety of Japanese and pan-Asian dishes with vegetarian options, which are freshly prepared everyday.
The star dishes on the menu are the very Instagrammable sushi boats, each offering a different selection of rolls, ranging from 22 to 64 pieces.
We ordered the 4 Samurai Sushi Set with 8 pieces of Canada roll (smoked eel, salmon, avocado, Philadelphia cheese, nori, rice, eel sauce, sesame), Philadelphia roll (salmon, smoked eel, Philadelphia cheese, nori, rice), California roll (prawns, avocado, cucumber, tobiko, nori, rice, Japanese mayo), smoked eel maki, tuna maki, salmon maki and avocado maki.
The ingredients taste do very fresh and presentation is wonderful. If you go with a group of friends, this is a such great way to sample a range of their rolls.
Our waiter suggested we try the Vegetable Gyoza as they are very popular. One portion had five gyoza, made with a delicious filling of cabbage, carrots, garlic, onions, wrapped in a light rice dough, and a sweet chilli dipping sauce. These were some of the tastiest gyoza I have tried!
We also loved the Popcorn Prawns, in a tempura batter served with a wonderful spicy sauce. They reminded me of the Dynamite Shrimp at PF Chang’s.
Fish Curry Rice, came with battered cod fingers covered in a tasty spicy coconut milk curry sauce, and a lightly fragrant yellow rice.
In all some great dishes, although the Vegetable Udon Noodles with squash, carrots, champignon mushrooms and broccoli was disappointingly bland so we won’t order it next time.
Sushi Fabrique in Fitzrovia offers modern, trendy and healthy dishes using quality ingredients at affordable prices. Whether you are looking for a quick bite to eat in your lunch hour or an enjoyable meal with friends (plus great content for the ‘gram), this is a must visit.
