Heat a small skillet over medium heat and toast the oats till they are fragrant.
80 grams jumbo oats
Transfer the oats to a small saucepan, and on medium heat, add the water, milk (and salt if using) and stir.
450 millilitres water, 120 millilitres milk, pinch of salt
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, stirring continuously. After approximately 5 minutes, or once the porridge looks creamy and has the desired consistency, turn off the heat and cover allowing to steam for another 5 minutes. Garnish as you wish.
Notes
If adding fruit, allow the porridge to cool slightly first.Porridge will thicken slightly as it cooks, so you may need to add a little milk to your desired consistency.Cover and store in the fridge for up to 3 days then heat through with a little milk before serving.
