Magija chocolate bars, now available in UK, take strawberries & ice-cream to another level in this delicious dessert!

This post was sponsored by Magija, all opinions are my own.

Magijas chocolate dessert bars are a wonderful combination of chocolate with curd cheese. They are in effect, chocolate cheesecake bars, coated with a layer of delicious rich dark chocolate.

These chilled dessert bars, made by Lithuanian company, Žemaitijos Pienas (the company behind Džiugas and Germanto cheeses), are hugely popular in Lithuania, and a welcome novelty for the British market.

    A healthy dessert bar

They are a wonderful guilt-free treat! The soft, beaten curd has a lower fat content than cream cheese, and each bar contains less sugar than a standard chocolate bar.

The curd makes it calcium rich, with a great source of high quality protein, containing essential amino acids. (Curd is produced in the early stages of cheese making – it takes around 6 hours to turn fresh milk into curd.)

Also, the bars do not contain any artificial colours or additives, and are suitable for vegetarians.

    Taste and texture

The curd is beaten to make it light and fluffy, mixed with real cacao and tiny chocolate chips, then encased in a layer of chocolate.

Biting through the chocolate layer, the centre tastes like cheesecake – smooth, creamy and slightly tangy, with a delicious rich chocolate flavour. It is a chocolate lover’s dream!

The texture is beautifully creamy but lighter and less dense than cheesecake. One bite and it simply melts in the mouth.

These bars are a perfect pick-me-up for any time of the day. My kids love them too! Unfortunately, after I shot the photo of the unwrapped bars, they ALL disappeared. I had to buy more from Sainsbury’s (I found them in the refrigerated Polish section), so I could create this delicious dessert.

    A yummy recipe

The combination of Magija bars with fresh strawberries, ice-cream, an easy strawberry coulis and mint, went down a treat! Yes, this dessert disappeared far too quickly. See the recipe below.

    Where to find Magija

Magija dessert bars are available in the chilled world or ethnic section at Sainsbury’s, Tesco and now Asda. They can also be found in independent food shops and Budgens.
