Ingredients
You will need just 6 ingredients:
- confectioner’s sugar – also know as powdered sugar
- butter – we use salted but you could also use unsalted
- vanilla
- lemon juice – freshly squeezed for best flavour
- milk – whole or half and half
Then simply beat all the ingredients together till smooth and creamy. Use straight away, before it starts to harden.
Use different flavours
Citrus lemon gives a wonderful fresh taste but you may wish to change the flavour to go with other desserts.
Instead of lemon juice use a teaspoon of any of these:
- strong espresso coffee
- almond extract
- saffron water
- cardamom milk
- orange blossom water
- rose water
Adding color
Mix in a few drops of food colouring while mixing the ingredients together.
How to use the icing
Prepare the icing after your dessert has cooled and you are ready add the glaze as it hardens within minutes.
Drizzle it straight away to form a thin almost transparent glaze.
Wait for the icing to harden before serving.
Storing
Although the icing will harden within minutes, it can be stored.
Transfer to a container with a lid and keep it in the fridge for up to 48 hours, then mix well before using.
