Rossopomodoro in Fulham.
We first tried Rossopomodoro in Venice and loved it. So, back in England, we were thrilled to find it practically on our doorstep. The menu here in the UK is different: there are fewer meat and fish dishes, and the menu is smaller. However, the selection here is good and they change their menus on a seasonal basis.
Most of their ingredients (sliced meats, olives, tomatoes, etc) arrive by road from Italy, including water from Naples to make the dough. The mozzarella is very fresh and is flown in daily from Campagna, (although they sometimes run out towards the end of the evening).
The Neapolitan style pizzas are very good: the crust is crisp and light while the middle of the pizza is slightly wet with sauce. Their pizzas have been accredited by the AVPN (Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana), who are known for being very strict on standards such as slow-proofed dough and a 485C wood fired oven. Rossopomodoro’s pizzas cook in just 60 seconds.
The pasta is cooked perfectly, the olives are delicious, the burrata is soft, and buttery, and the desserts are worth leaving room for. My favourite is the Delizia (a pan di Spagna with lemon cream). The Affogato al café is the perfect ending…. it’s all good here.
The service is warm and friendly from the all- Italian staff, when they are not too busy. There is seating on the ground floor where you can watch the pizzaiolo at work, while upstairs is another dining area where they show classic Italian films with English subtitles. It is popular with families.
